The collaboration between Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and German University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) in the Student Exchange Programme offers a transformative opportunity for students to immerse themselves in a new culture, gain international experience, and expand their academic horizons. Participants will spend a semester or academic year studying at a partner institution abroad, engaging with local students and faculty, and experiencing life in a different country.

What Can You Study at Exchange Students UKM-UDE Program?
Bachelor or Master Students from the Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics, and Chemical Engineering from UKM can study one or two semesters at UDE, vice-versa students from the Faculty of Engineering UDE can study one semester at UKM.
Although German language is not required for UKM students to join the Student Exchange Programme, students are strongly advised to learn basic German language which is offered by UKM Mercator Office.
For UKM students, the application form and more information can be obtained from the UKM Mercator Office. Once you have approval from the UKM programme coordinator, you will receive further support during your application to UDE in visa and accommodation application, guidance in health insurance, etc.
For UDE students, application will be handled by Internationale Angelegenheiten, Faculty of Engineering at UDE.
Students who join the cooperation program are required to pay the tuition fees to UKM. As for UDE, there are no tuition fees since the UDE is a public university located in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

1. Public transportation the best!
The public transports were the best. I took train almost everywhere I go especially if I would like to travel around NRW (a region in Germany) since my student ID is valid for free ride around the region. The taxi drivers were so polite and they were willing to help you anytime.
2. One cent is actually valuable
The biggest impact of this program on me is on how to manage my money. I start to do price comparison when buying groceries, making a list of what to buy and follow exactly what I wrote on it. I start to make my own notes on how much I’ve spent on one day – just to track where did my money go
